Filmlocation (above) of one of the secluded bays just 10 minutes by pleasure boat from Agia Efimia Due to the huge success of the best seller 'Captain Corelli's Mandolin', it had been decided to film this book at its original location, Kefalonia (Cephalonia). The film is about Captain Corelli, (played by Nicholas Cage), who falls in love with the local Greek girl Pelagia (played by Penelope Cruz), during World War II. The doctor is played by the actor John Hurt. The film has been directed by the oscar-winning director John Madden. One of the main reasons to film this in Kefalonia (Cephalonia) and not at cheaper locations or in studios, was simply that it was very difficult to find or create a place so beautiful and natural and at the same time still quiet enough throughout summer in order to be able to shoot the movie.     Most of the filming took place in Sami, a village 9 km south of Agia Efimia, where a huge and beautiful set was built. The campsite of the Italians was built on the beach of Antisamos bay (see homepage). North of Agia Efimia village you will find the bay shown above (where part of the filming took place), and it can be reached in ten minutes by boat. Myrtos beach, which is shown below was used in the film as well and is situated approximately 5 minutes by car west of Agia Efimia.   Film Location: Myrtos Beach   Accommodating the Executive Film Crew We had the honor at Hotel Boulevard Pyllaros and our affiliated Panorama Suites, to accommodate most of the directors, some of the actors, the executive film crew and the special effects team. The preparation of the film and actual filming of the movie took around seven months, during which we took care of all our guests in the way which was expected from us.
